Google has entered into its largest-ever carbon credit deal for methane reduction, partnering with Indian startup Mitti Labs. The four-year agreement will focus on rice farms across the Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, covering approximately 100,000 hectares at its peak. This project aims to pay farmers for adopting agricultural practices that reduce methane emissions and water usage by altering rice field flooding durations. Mitti Labs claims these methods can cut methane by about 50% and water consumption by about 40% without impacting crop yields.
