OpenAI expands ChatGPT’s plug-ins with app-like interfaces and automations

Previously, plug-ins connected ChatGPT to external tools, but these new extensions will offer a dedicated space in the ChatGPT sidebar, enabling interactive panels where users can directly engage with tools while in a chat. This includes support for custom file viewers. OpenAI has also simplified the plug-in development and discovery process with a new Plugin Creator tool and an improved recommendation system. Additionally, ChatGPT Sites can now host these plug-ins, facilitating sharing and collaboration. The company is also introducing support for the MCP Events specification to enable automations triggered by events in connected applications.
