Romania soccer introduces black card to 'combat abusive behaviour' from parents

Youth soccer matches in Romania can now be permanently canceled due to spectator behavior, changing how sideline conduct is policed.

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has implemented a new 'black card' aimed at curbing abusive behavior from parents and spectators at youth soccer matches. This initiative adds to the existing yellow and red cards used for player discipline. Referees can now use the black card to permanently abandon a match if inappropriate conduct persists after a two-step warning process. This process involves initially suspending the game and requesting coaches to address the crowd, followed by a 10-minute suspension with teams sent off the field. The FRF is distributing educational materials to all 130 Romanian academies to explain the new procedure, which aims to protect young players, coaches, officials, and other attendees from verbal abuse and physical assault.
