ScrollEd wants to turn textbooks into TikTok

ScrollEd, a startup founded by Stanford and UPenn students, is developing an app that transforms traditional text-based educational materials into a dynamic, short-form vertical feed similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels. The app, which will launch its consumer product at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, allows users to interact with content through AI-generated video, audio, text, and quizzes. Users can swipe up to discover new topics or swipe sideways to delve deeper into a current one, with an option for quizzes at the end of each segment. ScrollEd aims to make learning more engaging for a generation accustomed to short-form content, by meeting students where they are and facilitating deeper exploration. The company plans a freemium model, offering a free version for consumers and paid subscriptions for enhanced features and institutional licenses, which will include data reports on student engagement and progress.
